history

The Roxy Theatre was built in 1946 by Arnold Hanusa and Dr. Bossard.  Its first showing was July 4, 1946.  With state of the art equipment and seating, it was one of the most modern movie theatres in Montana with the top of the line equipment and seating for its day.

We are located in Choteau Montana, in a small rural town with views of the Rocky Mountain front and are close to all things outdoors, hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, skiing and our town has many amenities like a bowling alley, golf course, community pool, tennis courts, basketball court  and walking path. Please contact us we would love to talk to you about the Roxy!

The Roxy was family owned and operated since 1988.

The Roxy is a single screen first run theatre.  We have a top notch projector and sound system . Our sound is 7.1 Dolby surround sound with 10 auditorium speakers and a subwoofer behind the stage.  Our screen is 34 ft and we seat 340.  We have maintained the Roxy and have our equipment  inspected annually. We replaced our Creators popcorn machine with a new one in 2022. email us today choteaufaf@gmail.com

Sue and Larry Schilling purchased the Roxy in October 1988.  At the time, there were 380 seats.  When they added the stage several years ago, they removed 2 center rows, so the theatre now seats 340.

Through the years, the Schillings have upgraded the projection booth to give the best sound and picture to their customers.  In 2013 they went to a Digital Projector with Christi equipment.  In 2014, they updated the sound system to a 7.1 Dolby stereo surround sound system to improve the existing Bose system.

1988-2026 38 Years of the Movies

As most know Larry and I have been trying to sell the Roxy for the past dozen or more years. So many small town theatres are closing all the time, that the last thing we want for our beautiful Roxy. We the  Schilling family  want to express what a pleasure it has been for us to serve all of  our communities in for the past 38 years.  Lots of changes through the years for sure!  Everyone is always happy to come to the Roxy!  Change is good,  its time to pass the the neon lights  and the secret best ever popcorn recipe over to the non profit Choteau Film and Arts Foundation next week.  They are a local group dedicated to continuing the movies and going beyond, stay tune for some great new things as they navigate through all the great ideas and events they are hoping to bring to the Roxy. We hope that you will continue to support the Roxy and keep it going!!  This year our dear Roxy is 80 years old!! Shine bright our beautiful theatre!!!
